I am Aditi Lahiry one of the writers of the Anthology Airavata Part 1
The Title of My Story is “Gappu’s Homeward Journey”
I am an English and French Language trainer, I am passionate about writing poems, short stories, articles and enjoy storytelling at Mayakaatha where stories dance.
Writing for Airavata part 1 was a special feeling for me because I was allowed exclusively to write a story for children with my favourite animal as a character.
Gappu, the central character of my story is a character who faces many challenges in life and his freedom is at stake but finally, he frees himself to return to the forest ( although it is different from the forest of North Bengal, where he was born).
I was inspired to write about Gappu because whenever I see an elephant in the Zoo or at Circus, I feel that it is looking for freedom.
It wants to go to the vast forest and enjoy under the vast sky.
I thank Meera V Barath and Pachyderm Tales for giving me this wonderful opportunity and hope my Story helps children understand the value of freedom. They should be able to respect other creatures of nature.
Looking forward to penning more in the other upcoming anthologies of Mayakaatha and Pachyderm Tales.

Thank you so much dear Preeti S Mankatala. Best wishes to you too.
Hi Aditi. I really enjoyed your story, more because I too feel terrible when I see birds in cages and animals in zoo, even fishes in aquariums. All the more now after the pandemic hit and we were home bound.
Hello Aditi,
It’s an important story to write. The zoo can’t be the home a wild animal wants. They belong to the forests.
Best wishes. 🙂
