The Thank You Blog Book Review

I felt as if I had been watching a movie as I read the book. This could be due to the author’s outstanding writing style or the fact that I recently resumed my habit of watching films. The author has made the story as relatable as she can with her flair for words. Whether it is Andrew or Myraah, Chaaya, Meena, or even Bhumika Velu, they have a story worth sharing that is built to perfection yet flawed in their way, making them fit in like a glove in their respective characters.

The rom-com has interesting elements in place that make it the ultimate perfect to be on screen as an enjoyable web series.

1. Myraah, the strong-willed journalist, embodies the modern-day woman who walks leaps and bounds to grow professionally. At the same time, when she misses her mom and is at the most difficult time of her life, she does not want to slow down Andrew’s pursuit of life.

Despite being betrayed by Meena, her friend, who shatters her relationship with Andrew, she chooses to wear her professional hat and work alongside the man for whom she once had a heart full of love.

Even the final move she takes to get away from Andrew seems to be a sort-out decision that eventually gives a bright ending to her coffeelicious love story.

2. Andrew proved heroic to me as a character when he decided to tell Myraah the story of who he was and what his family’s backstory was. Although everything was a mystery, he, in the first place, craved to unravel for himself once he realized that only in the presence of Myraah lies the happiness of his life. Men who choose to be truthful to at least their prospective life partners are always the best choice a woman can make.

He always chose to support her and was protective of her, yet he never interrupted or disagreed with her decisions.

The way he showed up for Myraah’s dad when he needed him the most in her absence and his sweet bond with Myraah’s mom were written beyond perfection, as though Andrew finds in her his mom, of whom he only has a bare idea but knows while joining the dots of his family’s past.

Men look the most handsome when they choose to put up their softer side naturally when they love someone truly, and they do not stop being so when the most impressive part of their love story is completed.

Chaaya, on the other hand, is a friend who knows what is best for Myraah. Even when we don’t take suggestions from friends while we make life decisions, to hear a voice that comforts us is always a soul soother lucky are the ones who have such friends, which is the rarest form of treasure in today’s circumstances.

Meena is the kind of character that chooses the ones that leave Myraah’s life. At least if Meena tries to be true to Ravi, she will have the experience of a happy relationship in her life. The fake display of emotions could be entertaining and joyful, but it can never last long.

3. The way the writer has showered their love for the city she grew up in, whether describing the winter or the beautiful Gulmohar, she has almost etched a scenic view with her selective use of language with the choicest words that complement each other, adding inevitable beauty to her narrative. The work setup of the protagonists, be it our journalist Myraah or political editor Andrew, is described as though, as we read through the lines, we see them walk in and out of their workplace and spend their day most realistically. She describes Myraah’s mom and her life with and without her to help the readers emote the protagonist’s pain, which almost brings an irresistible tear.

As a writer, I have always felt that writing emotions is hard. But, I have to say, whether it is holding a hand or giving the promise to stay forever together in life, Prajwal Hedge’s masterpiece, ”The Way We Were, is a perfect blend of emotions that brews not only her forever love for coffee that resonates in almost every flip of the page but a well-written story of love that highlights the fact that some are born to be together; rest is a mere play driven by the power of time.

It would have been much more pacifying and satisfying if Andrew’s point of view and thoughts were put out clearly by him, as Myraah does along the way.

If you want to read a rom-com that gives you the feel of watching a movie, this book is for you, and I would rate it a four-star read to curl up and read when you want a break from Instagram strolling on your weekends. You can buy the book here
