Today’s post is an introductory post for a new series on the blog, which is actually an idea that always made rounds in my head. For years, I wanted to explore baking goods from a functional food point of view.
My purpose of food technology blogging was never about only talking about the technology part of food processing. I wanted it to be a learning journey that could be enjoyed by a larger audience.
In the coming weeks, I will be exploring a variety of baked homemade goods, their ingredients, the health benefits of these ingredients, and how the methods of baking help with the outcome of the finished product. And last but not least, on how baking gives a takeaway for life.
If by any chance you have read my eBook that I published in 2020, you might have an idea about the content I have written. I have not added the eBook to the blog, as I plan to publish a revised version of the book in 2027 with 10 new chapters.
The upcoming new posts will help you understand new insights about baking, starting from next week. Hope to keep you all interested as I get back to food technology after years, hone my professional hat, and give it my 100 per cent.
I always kept the balance between food technology, knowledge put in simple words about the processes involved, and takeaways on how these food processes could relate to life philosophies, giving it an emotional touch.

Today’s Takeaway is the term functional food along with examples.
Functional food is basically food that offers health benefits along with giving you basic nutrition.
For example:
Coconuts have lauric acid and other medium-chain fatty acids that may influence lipid levels, particularly increasing HDL when consumed in moderation.
Cocoa powder is rich in antioxidants, mainly flavanols, which may support brain health.
