Why Millets are in the spotlight in the International Millet Year 2023?

Top 8 Ultimate Reminders of Why You should add Millets to your daily food intake.

Millets are unique since they were among the first crops that humans cultivated.

1. Because they contain a range of nutrients essential for good health and well-being, millet is often referred to as “nutritious cereals.”

2. Millets offer a variety of nutritional, nutraceutical, and health-promoting qualities, particularly due to their high fiber content and unique starch composition, which play a significant role in lowering the risk of diabetes and other related disorders.

3. Indeed, millets serve as a prebiotic that is food for probiotics that make our gut healthy.

4. To prevent constipation, millets help to hydrate our colon.

5. The abundance of tryptophan in millets results in the production of serotonin, which is one of the happiness hormones.

6. The niacin in millets helps reduce cholesterol. Consuming millet lowers LDL cholesterol and C-reactive protein, ensuring heart health.

7. All millet types exhibit strong antioxidant activity.

8. Millets enjoy the additional uniqueness of being gluten-free and non-allergic.

The Indian Institute of Millet Research regards millets as powerhouses of nutrition as they not only have carbs, fats, proteins, and energy but also the stellar nutrients listed here and dietary fibers.

1. Calcium
2. Phosphorous
3. Magnesium
4. Zinc
5. iron
6. Thiamin
7. Riboflavin
8. Niacin
9. Folic acid, which is also known as an essential vitamin and mineral, is abundantly found in millets.

Though millets have been around since prehistoric times, they were mainly overlooked due to the focus on wheat and white rice post-independence.

Government’s role in highlighting the importance of Millets in present times.

However, after learning about the advantages of millets to consumers, farmers, and the environment, the government has placed a high value on millets and their varieties, designating 2023 as the International Year of Millets.

Not only that but at the G20 Summit 2023 held in New Delhi, India, world leaders from various countries were fed a banquet with millet as the main course.

After knowing about the nutrition profile of millets,

You could still have a few general questions about them, like

1. Why are millets not tasty?
2. Why is the variety of food items made with millet limited?
3. Why do certain millets take longer to get cooked than regular rice or wheat-based foods?
4. Why do they take some time to digest?
5. Why do children not like millets?

When the products are made, wheat flour is mixed with millet flour while making the dosa /poori/Chapati mix /noodles / pasta, so this comes as an answer to all the questions about giving millet-based products variety, taste, lesser cooking time, and better digestibility.

Let me introduce you all to six instant millet-based products that could make your morning healthier, easier, and tastier than ever before!

About the Founder and About the Product

Dhivya began her job at an IT firm, but soon her desire to learn more about Indian cuisine and eating habits inspired her to launch her own food company, Ana Foods, and start her entrepreneurial journey. As she discovered the enormous potential of conventional food sources like millets, she developed the millet breakfast combo that offers a distinct kind of breakfast for a full week as a solution to the three issues she recognized with millets. 1. The lack of unpolished rice varieties and millets 2. Millets require more time to cook and are impractical in today’s fast-paced society. 3. It can be challenging to locate tasty, nutritious food for kids.

The Thank You Blog Food Product Review for Ana Foods Weekly Millet Breakfast combo – Barnyard Millet Semiya

This week we have Barnyard Millet Semiya from Ana Food’s weekly millet breakfast combo that gets ready in about 10 minutes and will also end the confusion of what to cook differently every morning.

Barnyard millet is rich in vitamins and minerals and full of dietary fibers that are essential for your family’s health. The semiya, noodles, and pasta in the weekly breakfast combo pack of Ana foods get their variety from extrusion, which gives these foods an interesting shape that attracts children.

All the cooking directions are given clearly on the package. I have tried the simple, usual version that has onions with simple tempering and garnishing; if you want the sweet version, you can use jaggery powder and grated coconut.

The main idea of the Ana Foods millet breakfast combo is to give you a variety of millet-based products for your everyday breakfast, not just for one day but for the entire week, for only three hundred and sixty-eight rupees.

Isn’t it the best? So, what are you waiting for?

Go to their website and make your mornings tension-free with their tasty, healthy, and wholesome weekly millet breakfast combo.

My take on Barnyard Millet Semiya is that it doesn’t have any taste differences from regular Semiya. So, if you are looking to make a healthier version of semiya payasam or kheer for the festive season ahead, then the Barnyard Millet Semiya from Ana Food is a sure choice of delight.

The post is written in collaboration with Ana Foods and the Review is based on my personal experience.
